The Olimex USB-to-serial converter uses a CH340 - a popular chip with good software support. The module itself is breadboard-compatible, with four 2.34mm male pins ready to plug into your breadboard.
The board uses a micro-USB connection which is USB 2.0 full-speed compatible. It takes power from this USB connection, offering up to 80mA @3.3V or up to 450mA @5V. The 3.3V or 5V output is controlled by an SMT jumper - soldered by default to 3.3V.
